Survive the Savage Sea
Originally written in 1973 by Dougal Robertson, Survive the Savage Sea is a first hand account of the attack and sinking of the Lucette, and blog style record of the days they were adrift.
The Story of the true adventure story of the Robertson family's fight to survive for 38 days aboard their small dinghy in the Pacific ocean, battling storms, hunger, thirst, danger, and death, after their yacht sank in sixty seconds, following an attack by killer whales. It has become the classic journal of survival at sea, and is used world wide by schools in literature curriculums.
Reviews of Survive the Savage Sea
"For stark excitement, marine natural history, practical lessons, and human love and stresses, few records, if any, of hazard and survival have ever bettered it." Washington Post
"Well-written account....an unexpectedly personal view of a man's physical and a woman's emotional courage that, when bonded, produced the strength to survive." Sailing
"The Robertsons survived and their tale is a triumph of human resource and determination against terrible odds." Cruising World
"Unique, fascinating, magnificent!" Samuel Eliot Morison
This is one of the best survival adventure stories. The Robertsons are attempting a circumnavigation when their yacht is sunk by killer whales in the Pacific Ocean. With very few provisions, an inflatable raft (which later sinks) and a dinghy the Robertsons are able to survive 38 days on the ocean under extreme conditions. Dougal Robertson's account of the adventure is gripping, at sometimes understated and brutally honest. Robertson was probably not an easy man to get along with but his indomitability, his command presence and force of will, coupled with his wife's emotional strength, got their family through. It is a tremendous story of leadership under the most extreme circumstances.
The Last Voyage of Lucette
Written by Douglas Robertson in 2005. Douglas has finally produced, from a combination of Dougal's notes and old newspaper articles, together with family members personal recollections, an exciting account of the Robertson Family's travels. The story includes our meeting with the Icelanders, who were on a similar journey as ourselves and to whom, the successful outcome of our trip was so dependant. He recounts the initial stages of leaving Falmouth on the south coast of England in the teeth of a raging storm and our arrival at Portugal and the Canary Islands. Follow the family's adventures, as they sailed before the trade winds of old, across the Atlantic Ocean and on through the Caribbean to America.
Join them on the Spanish Main and the Panama canal, enroute to the Pacific Ocean and then on to the Galapagos islands, to the point where an unforseen disaster changed their lives forever. Discover the privations they were forced to endure and how the conclusuion of their adventure became the mother of modern survival epics.
Sea Survial: A Manual
Sea Survival - A manual
The Robertson family survived against all odds. This is what makes their story so unique. Many people have written articles and made statements about their strengths and their attitude to life which enabled them to live through this disaster, but this this is the book that will explain the practicalities of Survival. To us it is probably the most important book that was published.
We know it has saved lives!
